Design a pocketable scheduler you can take anywhere. Discover the itineraries from others.
UX/UI Product Design | Travel Planner | Itineraries | Productivity App
Travel Flow is a planning and scheduling platform that helps travelers to organize and create effective itineraries. It allows users to discover, share and modify the places where everybody plans to go.
I am the sole UX/UI designer who worked on this project. As this project provides the freedom to work and design entirely on my own, I have implemented the design thinking mindset throughout the design process and created the product.
It requires time for people to research where they should go, and check on the transportation and other details related to the locations.
Most people would find inspiration from the internet and social media for where to go, locations, images and reviews, then they would shift to other tools and continue to do the planning.
When discussing a trip itinerary, people usually send a text message with separate images to discuss individual places they will go.
I believe if I can design a product that could offer a virtual planning and scheduling platform for people to create and share their itineraries, it will be helpful for travellers to travel around the world. This can be focused on the requirements below:
Travel plans can be easily accessible within a few taps.
Ability to share with users all around the world or privately share with family and friends.
Existing itineraries created by users can be referenced and modified easily.
Travel plans can be easily accessible within a few taps.
It was found that the demand for international traveling had increased by 55% - 70% in 2022 after the travel restrictions set for Covid-19 had been lifted.
Ever since the travel boom, travelers would like to source information ranging from internet to books that aid individuals in planning their trips effectively. Many travelers find it difficult to create an effective travel plan with such a wide range of information, hence they tend to sway away or only partially plan for their trips.
5 interviews are conducted either in-person or remote calls online for people who have traveled at least 1 to 2 times per year. and mostly their concerns are about destinations and places to go, cost, and prior experiences on some planning issues by using different tools.
After collecting the data from early research and interviews, it is worth defining the problems to focus on the user needs. Starting with the Affinity Map and Empathy Map, it was found that the interviewees would consider similar aspects and had similar feelings when it came to planning decisions.
With the research above they assist me in creating the User stories and User Flows. By having an understanding of what functions the user would need and visualizing what needs to be included in my initial sketches.
In my early design process, there were many functions and features I would like to include in the product. However, it is important to control what is the MVP for a product to prioritize what will be included in the initial launch, so the MVP is defined as follows:
This is the initial design that helps me to establish a basic structure of how the navigation will run on the actual screen. There are 3 major flows are designed for the screen navigation:
Flow 1: Account creation

Flow 2: Planning and Creating for a Trip
Flow 3: Transportation
The early sketches and wireframes are created based on the User Flows, I hand draw the 3 major screens that users would encounter when they use the app. The ideas became more visible once it was drawn out.
This High-Fidelity Wireframe was created after I had the concept of how the product would look.Later on, I did a Guerrilla Usability Test on the sketches and wireframes with my interviewees, They liked how the idea of creating a Travel Planner, and how the navigation was displayed clearly which is easy to use. However some did mention that it seemed planning was not the main feature, and the search bar was located in an awkward position.
This wireflows is an updated version of my user flows. With the screens on, it is really helpful for me to document where the screens will take the users to.
In retrospect while I was working on this project, I have spent a lot of time researching different competitors' mobile application layout, so that my design would somewhat align with the normal flow of what other travel apps offer while being different. After creating the wireframe and receiving feedback provided by all the participants from the usability tests and interview, I realized the layout I had initially created was not focusing on the main feature of travel planning. These feedbacks made me realize how important it is to conduct a usability test and also reminds me to create a user centric design with the needs of the users in mind while making it distinctively different from what the industry offers.I enjoyed the creativity this project has given me. It allowed me to understand more about balancing the needs of different users, which is having a productive app to assist on their travel planning, on the other hand providing them the ability to explore and share their travel experiences with others.
